Songs

Nowadays almost 100 songs are recorded as His Holiness Danzanravjaa’ s creation. Generally, his songs are preserved in the text, which is written in Classical Mongolian Scripts and called “ The One which has 86 sourses”. If one tries to outline his songs, we can say, there are three main types such as long, short and lines of experience. Many of his long songs such as “Jargaltain delger” /Prosperous happiness/, “Urikhan khongor Salkhi” /Dearly soft wind/, “Khuvch-un undur” /The Tallest of forest/, “Khurmast tenger” etc, are still very widespread songs of special holidays, celebrations and festivals among Mongolian people. While some of his shot songs such as “Tuvshin saikhan” /The perfect Calmness/, “Ulemj-un chinar” / The Greatness of Qualities/ are still alive and regarded to be Mongolian shot folk songs. [Mongolian folk songs have two main type that are long and short. ]
Among all these songs “ The Excellency of Qualities” is the most famous and well spread all over the Mongolian people. This song, which is made of five verses, is also known as “ The Five offerings”. A Contemporary Mongolian outstanding scholar, Dr. Khurelbaatar wrote about this song, which reveals the perfect qualities of woman beauty through five senses, as below:

“…The Excellency of Qualities” is a song by Danzanravjaa, which is known as “song of five offerings”. This song is the praise of very clear face like a mirror, melodious voice like a cuckoo sound, soft body like a finest silk and make them as the highest symbols of offerings, and hence this is the praise of all the perfect qualities those which one can experience through “aDod yon- lnga” or five qualities of desire such as form, sound, smell, taste and touch.
The Excellency of Qualities is as religious teaching on one hand, and love melodious or praise of a beautiful woman on the other hand.
On the basis of this one might driven a conclusion that Noyon khutugt’s songs are contextually reveal two meanings. Their explicit meaning is a day to day life and the conventional truth whilst implicit meaning of them is a dharma teaching and the ultimate truth. So, having obviously revealed both deep speculations and melodious characteristics of Buddhist Literature Traditions they have two contents such as a worldly life and dharma teaching as well as two meanings such as a invocating and verifying…”
There is still existing a strong belief of Mongolian Gobi people that considers singing the certain songs as the same as reciting pujas. For an instance, people believe that singing “The Excellency of Qualities” ones is equivalent to reciting the White Tara Puja a thousand times.
Likewise, there are written about some evidences of making pujas closer to human life by using such songs in His Holiness Danzanravjaa’s brief biography. Particularly, in “A Concise Life Story of the fifth Noyon Khutugt” it says:
“…created ‘The Skyscraping Mountain of the West’ song as a preparation for the auspicious occasion of 25th moon day’s puja on the way and did it by this song, … etc.
“The Excellency of Qualities” is a very specific one among those many songs by His Holiness Danzanravjaa for it coincides with the “ Eighteen marks of the beautiful woman”, which is one of the best creations on praise of the Oriental woman’s beauty by a Tibetan lama Londol and also Kalidasa’s well known poem called “Cloud Messanger”. This song is also very specific because it is firmly based on Dandini’s theory of making five qualities of desire such as form, sound, smell, taste and touch as the ornament of words in “The Dictionary of Pleasant Melodious”.

The Excellency of Qualities

Excellency of qualities is perfected
Colors precipitated on the mirror like
Very, very beautiful face of yours
Never stops its attraction for eyes
Really, really conquer ones mind.

Gushed out from the midst of the lotus
Lovely taste of the honey ……………
